If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a royal, here is your chance. Ahead of The Crown’s final episodes, streaming giant Netflix has announced that it will auction off some of the most iconic items from the fan-favorite royal drama. The first part of the show’s sixth and final season dropped on November 16, while the concluding six episodes will be released on December 14, marking the end of the show’s seven-year run.
The Auction
Auction house Bonhams is all set to head The Crown auction, which will include almost 450 props, furniture, and costumes from all six seasons of the acclaimed series. The auction will happen in two parts.
The online auction, running from January 30 to February 8 on Bonhams’ website, will showcase around 300 lots, catering to early-bird bidders. The live auction on February 7 at Bonhams’ London flagship will feature about 150 lots. The special part is that the proceeds from the auction sales will pave the way for a brand-new scholarship program at the National Film and Television School. This initiative aims to nurture aspiring talents across various fields like directing, editing, production design, and art direction for the next two decades.
The Items Available
While all 450 items up for bid are bound to be a collector’s dream, some truly stand out as sensational, especially the iconic pieces from Princess Diana’s wardrobe in the show. These include the stunning replica of Diana’s sapphire engagement ring in season 4, the unforgettable revenge dress donned by the princess after her split from Prince Charles in season 5, and the leopard swimsuit from season 6, worn during the infamous vacation amid Charles’ 50th birthday bash for Camilla Parker Bowles.
The auction will also feature replicas of the Gold State Coach, ceremonial coronation garments like one worn by actress Claire Foy for Queen Elizabeth’s 1953 crowning scene, as well as ballgowns amongst other unmissable items. The auction is sure to be a great success.
